When travelers say ‘Penang’, they really refer to two places, the island of Penang and it’s largest town, the city of Georgetown. The residents are a bit more particular. For them Penang refers only to the island.

Quito, the capital of Ecuador, lies just below the equator for which its country is named. The Centro Historico, in the Old City is home to most of Quito's colonial buildings. Visitors come to Quito for a chance to straddle the equator, hike in nearby national parks, and climb volcanoes. Many add Quito to a trip through Ecuador's Galapagos Islands.

At 8000 feet (2500 meters), Cuenca sits at the end of Ecuador's southern Andes. The compact area that comprises Cuenca's colonial area is situated on a cliff, with the park that traces the Rio Tomebamba stretched out below. The university area and modern Cuenca lie across the river.
